Hello everyone! I
would just like to start off by expressing my love for my area. The Woodbridge
1st area is absolutely amazing and the best area I could be. I love it here! I love the the
ward family, our bishop, and all of the members in the ward. They love reaching
out and helping us and have amazing testimonies that have strengthened mine
while being out here. I love this mission, and most importantly, I love
my companion Elder Roper! Seriously one of the best guys out there and I am
thankful to have him as an amazing trainer who has taken the time to get to
know me, taught the importance of working hard, and having fun while doing it!
It has been a busy week but I am truly grateful to feel the love, support, and
prayers from all of you and everyone in this area! I'm thankful to be here in
Woodbridge, Virginia. I even feel the love from the people who aren't
interested in the message we share (well most of them).. Most of the people who aren't interested are
very nice and supportive and recognize the missionaries as representatives of
Jesus Christ and love what we are doing and our quote "walk with
Christ"! I definitely have grown to love all the people out here. I'm
thankful to have been called to the Washington DC South mission and it's the
best one out there.
This week we had a
lot of service and some BIG changes. Service is the key to everyone's heart
right? We did service for about 4/7 of the days. Helping people move and
setting up this concert/sponsorship event for a Southern Baptist church. We had
the opportunity to attend this concert event. The sponsorship was for a special
needs program which was pretty sweet! Elder Roper and I set up all the tables,
the chairs, and moved a classic car out of the driveway. It ended up pouring
rain so everyone from this church was jam packed into a house and unfortunately
couldn't be outside! The food there was great and here in the South people know
how to cook dang well! One of the members of their church was singing
songs and entertaining everyone. The singer sang a lot of country songs as well
as some good Eagles songs like "take it easy" and some Elvis stuff.
It is good he didn’t play any John Mellencamp, specifically the song
"Cherry Bomb", or I probably would've broken down and cried right
then and there for how much I miss listening to his music.
On Thursday we had
return and report with all the trainees and trainers. It was great seeing
everyone from the MTC specifically the 6 I roomed with and was in a district
with! We went around and said what we liked about our trainer which was easy
stuff. It was great being with everyone and hearing from President Huntsman.
President bore
powerful testimony and shared an experience he had with Ronald A. Rasband.
President recalled talking to him one day where Elder Rasband looked president
Huntsman in the eyes and said " Some of the best missionaries are in the
Washington DC South mission." President kind of shook it off and
just said "yeah right, thanks." But then President described Elder
Rasband grabbed him by the collar and looked him in the eyes again and said he
was absolutely serious and that he had assigned missionaries to this mission
before, so he knows. I thought it was super cool that President shared that
experience. I swear I keep getting more and more motivated each day. I hope I
can live up to what Elder Rasband said and continue to grow and be the best
missionary I can possibly be! I'm thankful to have President Huntsman as
a mission president and I truly do love him. He cares for all of his
missionaries so much and is looking out for each and everyone of us and wants
us to have success!
As I said, this
week was full of some big changes. When I came out to the mission, I came out
with 24 new elders. Today 34 new ones come in. Next transfer 27 come in. It's
absolutely crazy and I can only imagine the stress on President! He is the man
and knows what he is doing though! I'm with Elder Roper for another transfer
which is sweet!
It has been a great
week and I am truly grateful to be a missionary representing Jesus Christ. He's
what this mission and gospel is all about. I love my savior and I am
thankful to wear his name on my tag for 2 years. I bear testimony of the
truthfulness of The Book of Mormon and as I read it I have come to love
studying the different principles. King Benjamin is one of my favorites and he
hammers it home with simple yet powerful words: "keep the commandments"
I love all of you and until next week.
Love,
Elder Junk
